One daughter’s journey to knowing her worth

A few weeks ago, I found myself battling the lies:

“I am little.  Insignificant.  Unnoticed.  Unloved.”

I’ve dealt with these lies before.

You see, the lies that we believe – the tapes that play in our heads – usually come from a relational wound where our hearts were vulnerable to hurt.

In order for us to stop playing and re-playing the tape of lies, we have to let the Father heal those wounds.  By His grace, we have to forgive those who hurt us.  And we have to let Holy Spirit give us a  new tape to play.

Here are a few recordings from my new tape:

“Anna, I am so proud of you… just because you’re my daughter.”

“Let me see your face; let me hear your voice, for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.”  Song of Solomon 2:14

“Anna, you give the world a taste of Me that none other can give.”

Psalm 37:23 says that God directs the steps of those who are His, and He delights in every detail of their lives.

“But I’m the youngest.”  So was David.  And God chose him to be king.

“But you don’t know my past.”  The woman who helped God’s people conquer their promised land was a prostitute.  (see the story of Rahab in Joshua 6, Matthew 1:5)

“But my family doesn’t understand.”  Joseph’s family didn’t, either.  But God used him to save their lives and the lives of thousands more.  (Genesis 50:20)

“But I’m not talented.”  That’s what Moses said.  But God worked through his weakness to lead millions into the fulfillment of an amazing promise.  (Exodus 4:10-12)

I know we’ve heard it before, Church, but this time, I pray it sinks into our hearts:

You serve a purpose for our Master that none other on this earth can serve.

Satan comes to steal our life, kill our joy, and destroy our faith.  (John 10:10)

Jesus came – into all our mess – and is here to stay.  He’s not going nowhere. (John 1:14)

He promises that His plans for those who love Him are filled with hope and with His presence. (Jeremiah 29:11-14)

If you’re searching for peace from anxiety, know that the Prince of Peace came to earth so He could be with you, forever.  (Isaiah 9:6-7)

If you’re searching for purpose, know that He promises to fulfill His purpose for you in the majesty of His amazing love. (Psalm 138:8)

He will never abandon the works of His hands.
